Nomination forms may be filed:
- Between January 2, 2014 and September 11, 2014, at a time when the Clerk's Office is open (Mon.-Fri. 8:30a.m.-4:30 p.m.)
- On Nomination Day, September 12, 2014, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Nominations must be on the prescribed form and accompanied by the prescribed fee. Obtain nomination papers from the Clerk of the Township or online. (Form 1 is available here). A nomination paper must be filed in person by the candidate or by an agent. The nomination paper must have original signatures and may not be faxed, mailed or emailed. Candidates will be required to provide photo-identification when submitting the nomination forms.
The nomination filing fee is: $200 for the office of head of Council and $100 for all other offices.
The prescribed fee is payable by cash, certified cheque, money order or debit. Credit cards and non certified cheques will not be accepted.
A Candidate is entitled to a refund of the filing fee if he or she:
- is elected;
- receives more than 2% of the votes cast for the office; or
- withdraws the nomination before nomination day.
Candidates must not spend or raise funds for their election campaign until their nomination form has been filed.
The Municipal Clerk must certify or reject the nomination paper by 4:00p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2014.
If a candidate decides to withdraw from the election, he or she must notify the Clerk in writing no later than 2:00p.m. on nomination day (Friday, September 12, 2014).
A candidate who withdraws before nomination day is entitled to a refund of the nomination filing fee. A candidate who withdraws is still required to submit a completed financial disclosure covering all financial transactions made up to the date the nomination is withdrawn.
